Malachi's Log: 030921 (monday)

I've sort of been in a blackout mode for a while, so no updates. I'm sure that lets you all down... well, most of you, anyway. Then again, I'm pretty sure only a couple people read this so it doesn't really matter all that much. You've probably already talked to me since then.

I started my new job with Investment Scorecard. I like it pretty well. They are much more casual than Willis was. Shorts and T-shirts kind of stuff. The work is interesting, if a little tricky at times. I think I'm getting into the swing of things.

My friend Kym got divorced. I got called as a witness for part of it because Greg (Kym's ex) basically accused Kym of having an affair with me saying that juggle night on Tuesdays was just a cover.

I had to take the morning off of work, but they let me go without having to take a vacation day or something.

I had to wait for an hour and a half before they called me, and then I spoke for about half an hour. It was just stupid, in general. They tried to make it sound like there was something going on, but every question Greg's attorney asked me just made it more clear that there was nothing going on.

After having explained about juggling in the park, Greg talked to his attorney for a second and he started with a different tactic.

Him: "Have you ever given her any gifts?"
Me: "Umm... I've given her some origami... folded paper."
Him: "Uhh... how do you spell that?"
... [Kimberly spoke briefly with kym's attorney at this point]
Kym's Attorney (her): "Have you given origami to other people."
Me: "Just about everyone that I know."
Her: "Have you given these things to other people you work with?"
Me: "Yes, absolutely."
Her: "Have you given origami to servers at restaurants?"*
Me: "I have in the past."
Her: "Would you give such things to someone like Miss Bailey, here?" (motioning to the court transcriptionist)
Me: "Yes."
...
Greg's Attorney again: "Do you even know Miss Bailey?"
Me: "No."
Him: "So you would give this... origami to people you don't even know?"
Me: "Yes, I've even given it to people I didn't know at the DMV."

* Kimberly's comments triggered this question.

At the end, the judge asked me a couple of questions about juggling, like how much work it takes to learn to juggle three, and what you judge the skill of someone based on. He said that it always looked fun to him.

Kym ended up with weekend custody of her son, which wasn't the outcome that she wanted, but I think it will work out in the end.

That was a month ago today.

Since then I've been busy. Kimberly and I went to the fair. We went to a marching band exibition as well.

I've played a lot of board game. I bought several board games including Tigris and Euphrates, Money, Zertz, The Settlers of Catan Card Game, The Settlers of Catan Card Game Expansions, El Cabellaro, Zoo Sim, Nicht die Bohne, Flowerpower, and Polarity (probably we weirdest game I own). I have also ordered, but have not recieved yet, El Grande, M, Web of Power Vatican Exp., DVONN, and Octi-X. Now I just have to play them all. To that end, Doug, William, and I are going to Batty's Best Game Fest near Atlanta next month.

I've starting selling off my childhood^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H Transformers on ebay. So far I've had mixed results, but I'm starting with the small stuff and working my way up. I also played Cosmic Encounter again. It just isn't my kind of game, so I'm going to sell my Mayfair set (both Cosmic Encounter and More Cosmic Encounter). Right now I've got it listed on the Board Game Geek Marketplace with a high asking price. If it doesn't move I'll probably put it no ebay.

I've been trying to get the people here at work to play a boardgame at lunch, but so far they've been busy and stuff. Maybe this week...

I'm also going over to Willis to play a game tomorrow at lunch. It will be nice to see those people again.

I've gone over to see Joey and Julie a couple of times lately. That's been fun. We watched the Cowboy Bebop movie. It was pretty good. Sort of like a long episode, but still good. Minimal fanservice, which is also good (that it was minimal).

I stayed up late and watched all of the Trigun episodes over the last month or so. It's a good series, but not great. I mean, when it's good, imho, (usually when Vash is serious) it's great. Well drawn, good story, good voice acting; it all comes together. When it's trying to be funny, the style changes and I just don't dig it as much. It's the kind of thing that Bebop confined to the role of Ed and even then it was fairly minimal. In Trigun it can apply to everyone and be a little overbearing. I'm glad I watched it, though.

It's sad that Capt. Murphy, of Sealab 2021, died recently.

Did I mention that I finally saw Manhunter? It just wasn't the same movie as Red Dragon, nor was it true enough to the book for my taste. *sigh*

We're almost caught up on SG-1 through season 6. Then we'll have to wait until January for more episodes.

My left eye was really bloodshot the other day. I would post the picture I took of it, but I'm tired of people asking me why I'm upside down... and it wasn't pretty.

We played carabande tonight. I was sort of let down, after all of the things I've read about it.

Other stuff happened, but I'm tired now.
